This will be a block of time for parents to be in their child's classroom to meet their teacher, hear about plans for the year and learn about the classroom discipline policy. This half hour block of parent/teacher time, without your child present if possible, is very important to help get the year off to a great start! Please put the above dates and times on your calendar today. We appreciate your efforts to attend!
The Ketchikan Police Department is looking for someone to design their Christmas cards this year! If you are in the 1st-6th grade, please draw a picture for the front of the Christmas card. Please hand it in to the Houghtaling office before October 5th. Or, you may hand deliver it to the Ketchikan Police Department at 316 Main Street. The winner will have their drawing placed on the front of the Christmas card and become a Junior Officer for an afternoon.
Hello Houghtaling Parents! Our teachers at Houghtaling strive to give as much instructional time to our students as possible. For this reason, we are asking for your help with keeping classroom interruptions limited. If you have anything you would like to drop off for your students, please leave items at the front office and our staff will see that it gets to your child's classroom. If you are wanting to visit your child, we ask that you come during their lunch/recess time only. Please sign in at the office and have a visitor sticker visible at all times. If you need to speak to your child's teacher... no problem! Just call our front office at 225-4128, and we will transfer you over to your child's teacher's voicemail and they will call you back to set up an appointment. Houghtaling Parents r o c k !!
School attendance is very important. In an attempt to have your students attendance as accurate as possible, Houghtaling Elementary has recently moved to an automated attendance system. If your child is not in school, and you have not contacted the office as to why, you will receive the message. All attendance is flagged as unexcused until parent contact is made. If you receive a message, please contact the office right away and the attendance will be updated. Please note - all unexcused absenceses are reported to the state for truancy.
The Houghtaling office does not have a registered nurse on staff. Students needing medicine at school must first have a medication form signed by parents on file in the health clerks office. This includes cough drops, anbesol, lotions, etc. If you child needs to have this items at school, please accompany them into the school office to have the proper paperwork signed.
How do I sign up? How do I add all my kids under one log in? Look at the above tabs under "For Parents" & click on Power School Parent Portal. This will give you detailed instructions. Once you have signed everyone up, then you can start going directly to the "Parent Portal" Icon at the top of the screen next to the Menu icon. This will take you directly to the log in page everytime. Hope this clears up any confusion.
Tongass Federal Credit Union and the Ketchikan School District are working together on a program to teach children about the importance of saving. Parents sign a permission form and their children can then make weekly deposits into a savings account in their name. The account will earn 5% APY! Print out the attached document today & send it into school! Our wonderful TFCU Representatives will meet all children who wish to participate every Wednesday in front of the Houghtaling Office! Periodically TFCU will send out statements so together you & your child can watch their account grow! An awesome fact - last year over 60 students together saved $5002.00! Houghtaling Dolphins & TFCU are AMAZING!
Hello Parents - if you are cleaning out dresser drawers or closets, please keep in mind we are looking for gently used clothing for the office. We are in need of rain pants, coats, sweatpants, socks, boots, etc. Also, children may want to place an extra set of clothing in their backpack for changing into on wet recess days. All students go out to recess for 30 minutes a day.
Morning Session 8:00am - 11:00am
Afternoon Session 12:15pm - 3:15pm
