  • Houghtaling Parents:

    When the afternoon dismissal bell rings, all students need to go home. Our playground is not supervised after 3:30pm. If you choose to allow your child to stay and play after school, you are doing so knowing that there will not be school district supervision.

  • PARENTS!

    First Student Bus Co is requesting that all students with any bus route or stop changes need to hand a transportation note to the bus driver. This means parents must contact the school office before 2:00pm to have the note written.  No note = no change in stops  Thank you for your help in this incredibly huge safety issue.

  • Student Absence and 

    Leaving Early

    If your child is going to be absent from school for any reason, please contact the school office (907) 225-4128 first thing in the morning. All absences are unexcused until a parent/guardian contacts the office to excuse their student.

    We are noticing many parents showing up at 3:00pm to pick up their child early. Our school day does not get over until 3:25 Kindergarten and 3:30 1st through 6th, with a lot of learning still happening right up until the dismissal bell. If you could contact the office first thing in the morning so the classroom teacher can plan for the early dismissal, that would be very helpful and appreciated. It will avoid having so many classroom interruptions. Thank you!

  • Playground Supervision

    For student safety, PLEASE remember that the playground will not have adult supervision until 8:35am. It is very important that students are not dropped off prior to that time. If your child walks to school, please talk to them about this topic so they do not arrive before supervision is available. There will also be no adult supervision on any playgrounds after 3:30pm.

  • The Students of the Week were Jacob Shedlosky, Calvin Ingman, Julian Paule, Wyatt Balluta, and Maci Bolton!

    The Spirit Award went to Mrs. Hamilton's 2nd Grade!

    The Box Top Award went to Mrs. Roth's 3rd Grade!

    The Sunshine Awards went to Aleah Perry, Kaydee Forrester, Milan Browne, and Jameson.

    Lots are locked every day 
     
    Our parking lot is for staff parking only, unless you need to access the handicap parking.
     
    If you get locked in, you will need to wait, as it is for the safety of all students that the lot gets locked.

  • Lost & Found

    Lost & Found is located in the wooden box by the office. Please check regularly for your missing treasures! Periodically, as the bin gets overloaded, we will take items to Goodwill. So please do not delay in checking for missing items.

  • SCIENCE FAIR

    The Houghtaling Science Fair is happening in May! Put your thinking caps on and get your projects planned! You may pick up a Science Fair Manuals in the office or you can click SCIENCE FAIR above to print one out. Display boards will be for sale in the office at $3.00 for a white one, and $5.00 for a blue, red, yellow, or black one. May 8th all projects are due to your classroom teacher. May 9th will be set up and judging of the projects. May 10th there will be classroom walk throughs and an evening reception from 5:00pm to 6:30pm in the Houghtaling Library for family, friends, and community members. Click the heading above to print out a Science Fair Manual!

  • Houghtaling Talent Show

    The Houghtaling Drama Club is having a Talent Show! It is open for students in grades 3-6. Turn in your registration form ASAP! Tryouts will take place April 10, 11 & 12 in Miss Penny's room 116. We are going to have two practice groups, a Tuesday group and a Thursday group, depending on what the student is going to perform. At our first meeting on Thursday, April 13th we will have the practice schedule for who is practicing what day. Practices will be from 3:30-5:00pm. So if this sounds like something you want to do, get your parent permission paper turned in and come to the meeting on Thursday April 13th!!

    “We are soliciting nominations and recommendations for the Houghtaling PTA slate of Officers for the 2017-2018 school year. The Houghtaling PTA is holding its annual officers election on May 8th, 2017.   • Kindergarten Registration Open!

    Houghtaling is now accepting registration for Kindergarten for the 2017-2018 school year. If your child will be 5 years old on or before September 1st, you may stop by the Houghtaling office for a packet. We will not hold spots! Completed packets must be turned in and consist of all forms signed, and a copy of a live birth certificate & current shot records. ** Parents ~ all current preschool families must fill out a Kindergarten registration form.** ** You are not automatically moved up!**

    The last day for Extended School Day will be Thursday, April 27th. Please start planning now for your child's new after school plans. If they will start riding a bus please call the office asap to get a bus transportation notice sent for them. Thank You!

    Information regarding Summer School has been given to your child's classroom teacher. If you feel your child needs to attend, or wish to talk about the criteria for attending, please contact your child's teacher directly.     Do you know how easy it is to get into clipping Box Tops 4 Education? It's SO easy! There are MANY participating products at your local grocery stores that carry boxtops. Almost every isle has products! Each boxtop is worth 10 cents for Houghtaling.

What Happening


  • no parking

    We have 2 big requests...

    PLEASE do not park in the upper lot by the flag pole - it is marked with yellow cross hatch lines. This is an access aisle used for our delivery trucks for mail, freight and lunches. 

    Many times parents are visiting to quickly drop something off but it creates a big problem for our delivery trucks who come throughout the day. This is their parking area and many times it is blocked by a vehicle. There is extra parking now at the end of the upper parking lot down by the Kindergarten doors, and all along the street on Baranof Avenue.

    PLEASE do not park in the HANDICAP parking by the office, unless you are licensed to do so. By all means if you are licensed to use the handicap parking there are two available for your use. We are obligated to contact the Police Department if there is a car parked in a handicap spot without a handicap sticker visible. It is a $250.00 fine and the Ketchikan Police Department will ticket you.
